Pianist and composer William Bolcom and mezzo-soprano Joan Morris will visit the Ithaca College campus for a concert performance on Monday, October 13, at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall, located in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.
The visit will also include master classes, lectures, and talks. Joan Morris will teach for theater and voice students and William Bolcom for composition students.
A 4:00 p.m. matinee concert on Sunday, October 12, by the Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra, will feature a William Bolcom composition, "Commedia for (Almost) 18th Century Orchestra."
Ithaca College welcomes Bolcom and Morris as part of the Enduring Masters concert series, a partnership of the School of Music and the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute's Linden Center for Creativity and Aging, a part of the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies.
The series is funded through the New York State Music Fund established by the New York attorney general at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
The duo of William Bolcom and Joan Morris has delighted audiences across the United States and around the world since 1973. At the piano, composer and raconteur William Bolcom charms the audience with his engaging patter. As an accompanist, his lively and harmonically rich touch is impeccably tuned to every nuance of Joan Morris's voice.
Chanteuse Joan Morris brings out a veritable cast of characters to sing each of her songs. According to the Chicago Tribune, "She projects not just a song, but the character singing it, and gives that character her own irresistibly funny and winning personality."
The duo has 24 recordings to its credit, from the Grammy-nominated debut, After the Ball, to a recent collection of songs.
