The School of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to announce that, this fall, more than $20,000 for 24 different projects was awarded through the H&S Educational Grant Initiative.

The projects funded include:

  • Students from the Departments of Psychology and Mathematics presenting papers and posters based on their original research at academic conferences;
  • A concert and student workshops on Hindustani music and culture presented by award-winning North Indian musicians, organized by Denise Nuttall, assistant professor of anthropology;
  • A public presentation by Kevin Bales, founder and executive director of the human rights organization Free the Slaves, about efforts to eradicate modern-day slavery, coordinated by Laura Murphy, assistant professor of English, in conjunction with her course The Slave Narrative; and
  • Contaminant analysis of soil and sediment samples collected by students in the fall semester's Environmental Toxicology course as part of their research projects studying the old Ithaca City Dump site.

The next formal deadline for H&S Educational Grant Initiative proposals will be February 23, 2009.
