On Monday, October 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Handwerker Gallery, the On the Verge play-reading series will present a reading of Paula Vogel's 1997 play, How I Learned to Drive, directed by English professor Claire Gleitman and featuring Tony Award-winning actor Frank Wood along with a cast of Ithaca College students.

Frank Wood is a Broadway actor best known for his Tony-winning performance in the 1999 Broadway production of Sideman. Wood is currently performing on Broadway in the play, August: Osage County, which also won a Tony Award. He has been seen in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway plays, as well as such films as Pollock, The Royal Tennenbaums, Michael Clayton, and the upcoming Changeling. On television, Wood has been seen in Law and Order, The Sopranos, Third Watch, Ed, and many others; currently, he plays the role of Greg in the HBO series Flight of the Conchords.

On the Verge is delighted to be welcoming Wood back for his second visit to Ithaca College. He will perform the role of Peck in How I Learned to Drive, a play about a young woman's quest for maturity, independence, and finally forgiveness as her beloved uncle attempts to initiate her into adulthood by teaching her about a great deal more than driving.

This rich, dark, and moving comedy was described as "one of the must-see events of the season" when it opened off Broadway in 1997; it won numerous "best play" awards for Paula Vogel, as well as the Pulitzer Prize.

In addition to Frank Wood, the cast includes four students from Ithaca College's Department of Theatre Arts. The director is Claire Gleitman, professor of English.

The reading will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 27, in the Handwerker Gallery.
