Here's some background on Water for Sudan to clear up any confusion.
Water for Sudan started as an initiative by STAND (IC's anti-genocide coalition). Our goal is to raise $5,000 (preferably by the end of Spring 2009, but certainly by the end of Fall 2009) to sponsor the construction of one well in southern Sudan. We are now supported by the Student Government Association and wish to involve the entire Ithaca College community in our fundraising efforts. We are currently almost half-way to our goal at over $2,100. If every student gave only $1 we would have more than enough money to meet our goal of $5,000.
Our fundraising efforts have included: meal sign aways, collection jars at cafes around campus, donations from tabling, and a benefit concert last month. In the future we hope to collaborate with more organizations on campus.
The name "Water for Sudan" was taken from the larger non-profit organization, which has drilled 29 wells to date providing over 80,000 people with fresh, clean drinking water. Water for Sudan was founded by Mr. Salva Dut, one of the Walking Boys of Sudan. Check out www.waterforsudan.org for more information.
