Assistant professor of music theory Peter Silberman presented a paper, "Harbison's Use of Music of the Past in Three Selected Compositions," at the 29th New Music Festival, sponsored by the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

This year's festival, held October 23-25, honored the distinguished American composer John Harbison on the occasion of his 70th birthday year.

Silberman's paper, presented with the composer in attendance, discussed various strategies used by Harbison to integrate music by earlier composers with Harbison's own modern compositional style.
