I am pleased to announce to the campus community that Terri Stewart has accepted our offer to serve as the next director of public safety.
Terri has 20 years of progressive law enforcement and community policing experience in a variety of higher education settings, most recently as director and chief of police at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. She has also served as deputy chief of police at both the University of the District of Columbia and Texas Southern University, and in a variety of capacities with the Department of Public Safety at Syracuse University.
Terri describes herself as a "result-driven leader with notable strength for promoting collaboration through partnership building." Terri offers the leadership skills, higher education and public safety experience, demeanor, energy, and perspective that the Office of Public Safety needs at this time.
I want to thank the search committee, and especially Mike Leary, who served as search committee chair, for all of their hard work, thorough review, and dedication to this search and selection process. Thank you as well to all the members of the campus community who took the time to participate in the process and offer valuable input.
Terri's start date is January 5, 2009. Please welcome her to the Ithaca College community when she arrives in January.
