Over the next few months, ITS representatives will be working on re-cabling buildings and installing new network equipment as part of the Ithaca College Network re-Architecture project (NSrA). The NSrA project is a multi-year plan designed to modernize and enhance the campus computer network to best meet current and future computing and security needs. Re-Cabling The re-cabling process involves Verizon reps installing new cables both in the wall and from the computer or printer to the network jack. This will result in a brief network interruption for the computer or printer. In most cases, the disruption will only be 10 minutes or so. Every effort will be made to ensure that the re-cabling work is convenient for the affected user(s). If the timing is inconvenient when the technician arrives other arrangements can be made in most cases. All data jacks and workstations in identified buildings will be affected by this plan. Keith Wertz from Verizon, the main contact for this project, will attempt to notify building administrators prior to the work. New Equipment ITS will also be replacing network hardware in various buildings around campus. This work is expected to begin at 5:00 am and should be completed by 9:00 am. Computer users in these buildings may experience a brief interruption in Internet and network connectivity. ITS will attempt to notify affected users prior to the work via direct email. If you have any questions about these changes please contact the Helpdesk. Helpdesk |
