Jafeth Gomez Ledesma is an artist and cultural activist from Popoyan, Cauca Department, Colombia. He creates beautiful paintings which portray the lives, culture, and political struggle of the people of Cauca. He will speak about the role of art in community struggles for liberation, and show slides of his work.

Ithaca Common Council member Eric Rosario will introduce Jafeth and welcome him to Ithaca. Ithaca is a "sister community" to Cajibio, a neighboring town of Popoyan. Musician Colleen Kattau, who has performed in Cajibio and Popoyan, will share some songs as well.

The event is cosponsored by the Diversity Awareness Committee, politics department, art history department, Latin American studies program, Handwerker Gallery, Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, the School of Humanities and Sciences dean's office, IC STAND, and the Latino Civic Association.
