Gerontology Institute Visiting Scholar: "Working with Family Caregivers"Contributed by Marilyn Kinner on 03/03/09 Anyone who has or is caring for an older loved one will tell you how stressful this can be. The stress can build until the caregiver becomes too ill or depressed to continue providing the care. On Wednesday, March 18, William Haley, Ph.D., a professor at the University of South Florida's School of Aging Studies and the Gerontology Institute's spring 2009 visiting scholar, will present a workshop, titled "Working with Family Caregivers: Evidence-Based Practices." This event will take place 2:00-4:30 p.m. at Longview, 1 Bella Vista Drive, Ithaca.
Research is demonstrating that interventions for family caregivers, such as counseling and education, can be beneficial and prevent burnout. Any member of the Ithaca College campus community who is a caregiver is invited to attend this workshop and learn what kinds of education and counseling might be most beneficial for them to pursue.
