The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series will offer a screening of Jerusalem Is Proud to Present. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 101.

In 2006 Jerusalem was host to World Pride, which stirred turmoil in this politically complex city. On one side: Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religious leaders; on the other side: the activists of the Open House, Jerusalem's LGBT community center.

The film has received numerous awards, including:

  • Outstanding Documentary Feature Award -- OUTFEST Film Festival
  • Doc Aviv International Documentary Film Festival
  • "Movies That Matter" Human Rights Award -- IDFA 2007
  • Festival Di Popoli 2007
  • Sheffield Film Festival 2007
  • Audience Award and an honorable mention for excellence in documentary filmmaking -- Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival
  • Hugo Television Award -- Chicago International Film Festival 2008
  • Best Documentary Award -- Banff International Film Festival 2008
  • CMCA Mediterranean Challenges Grand Prize

The screening is cosponsored by the Jewish studies program and the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services.
