Organist Jean Clay Radice and faculty colleagues will inaugurate the new Leach continuo organ in the School of Music on Sunday, March 22, at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Handel's Concerto in B-flat and J. S. Bach's Cantatas nos. 51 and 82 will be performed by soprano Deborah Montgomery, trumpeter Kim Dunnick, baritone Randie Blooding, and oboist Paige Morgan, and a student chamber orchestra conducted by Kevin Ryan. The portable organ is a very compact instrument designed for playing continuo parts in baroque music, that is, filling in chords between the bass line and the soloists. It is also capable of being a solo instrument for small works like the Handel concerti. |
