Fire Extinguisher Recall

Contributed by Tim Ryan on 04/02/09

Certain brands of Kidde fire extinguisher have been recalled due to operational failures.

The fire extinguishers used throughout the Ithaca College campus are not affected by this recall.

Kidde, in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is announcing a voluntary recall to replace certain XL Fire Extinguisher units because they may lose pressure due to an off-specification lubricant. This loss of pressure may result in the extinguisher failing to operate when activated.

The affected units were manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 and sold at department, home, and hardware stores nationwide.

The following web link will help you determine if you have an extinguisher that is affected and enable you to register for a replacement if your unit qualifies.
