Phoebe Constantinou, assistant professor of health promotion and physical education, presented a paper entitled, "A Multidisciplinary Approach to Cultural Awareness in Physical Education," at the national convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The event was held in Tampa, Florida, on April 2, 2009.

The paper discusses an interactive teaching and learning methodology designed to enhance students' understanding of cultural differences.

Traditional games and sports from other cultures are used to enhance socialization skills, cross-cultural relationships, and acceptance of cultural differences. Through self-reflection, exploration and analysis, students develop cultural sensitivity and enhance their own learning and ability to communicate cross-culturally.
