Award for Forensics Inaugurated

Contributed by Scott Thomson on 04/13/09

The Ithaca College forensics society awarded the first annual Franklin Sharp Award to Daniel Parks, a speech communication major, on April 2, 2009.

According to Professors Scott Thomson and Bruce Henderson, codirectors of forensics, the award will be offered each year to recognize a student who not only excels in competition, but also represents the College admirably while traveling across the country.

The award is named for Professor Frank Sharp, a member of the speech communication department for 40 years and debate director for nearly 30 years. Professor Sharp has been approved for a terminal sabbatic leave for 2009-10.

The inaugural recipient of the award, Daniel Parks, participated in both team debate and individual dramatic competitions, as well as taking part in group performances at a number of performance festivals.
