Employees are able to take advantage of a special opportunity to apply for group long-term care insurance during the enrollment period beginning April 27, 2009, through May 22, 2009. This benefit is being offered on a voluntary basis, which means that, although you are responsible for paying the full cost of the benefit, you and your eligible family members may receive lower premiums and enjoy an easier approval process than with an individual plan. And your group coverage can move with you if you should change jobs, retire, or leave the College.

What is particularly exciting about this opportunity is that employees will have the chance to enroll in a program that pays for care in a variety of settings, including care at home, in assisted-living facilities, in adult day facilities, and in all types of nursing facilities.

Staying at Home

This program also includes several features that support people receiving long-term care at home, where they are more comfortable. These features include a home assistance benefit, which can cover home modifications, grab rails, devices like emergency medical response systems, and caregiver training. There are also benefits that pay for care provided by informal providers, including friends and some family members.

The plan also offers two options that help insureds keep up with the rapidly increasing costs of long-term care. Choosing your plan is as easy as "1, 2, 3." Pick your coverage level, your benefit amount, and your benefit amount increase option.

  • Noon-1:00 p.m., Taughannock Falls Room
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m., Taughannock Falls Room
