Noted Ethnomusicologist Tong Soon Lee to Present Keynote at May's Finger Lakes Project WorkshopContributed by Carol Hansen on 04/23/09
He has worked with the Islamic community in Singapore on the religious significance in the musical processes of the Islamic call to prayer, on performing arts and nationalism in Singapore, and with the Chinese community in England on Cantonese opera and issues of migration and multiculturalism in Britain. Every May, the Finger Lakes Project hosts a workshop at Ithaca College directed to the regional K-12 and college educators who are interested in learning more about sustainability, course design, and experiential and crossdisciplinary learning. The theme of this year's workshop is "sustainability and culture" and will include lectures and learning sessions on the following topics:
One valuable aspect of the workshop is hearing from other faculty about how they have incorporated sustainability into their own teaching and how their students have responded. Attendees go on a walking tour of the area that serves an example of how to incorporate place-based information in teaching. The workshop provides ample opportunity to discuss ideas, participate in hands-on activities, and form connections with other teachers. Please join us! |
