Physics professor Luke Keller will give an update on NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) and describe the project, a modified 747 aircraft with a 3-meter diameter telescope mounted in its fuselage. Keller is a co-investigator on a team of scientists and engineers who have designed and built a sensitive infrared camera for the observatory. The team will use their camera to make the first astronomical observations from SOFIA later this year and in early 2010.

This event is free and open to the public.
