Ithaca College housing looks to be significantly over target due to the size of the incoming class. As such, the Office of Residential Life recognizes the need to create additional space in traditional housing for these students. The Office of Residential Life has approved all students who have applied to move off-campus up to this point, but we anticipate the need for more available spaces. In order to address this significant need, the Office of Residential Life is offering returning students, holding on-campus housing assignments, several options to consider for fall 2009.These options include:

Option 1 - Submit an off-campus application; get it approved, and receive a $2000 incentive. (Read more information about the off-campus approval process below).

Option 2 - If you currently live in a corner room, in the Towers or Quads, you can consider relocating to another double on your current floor, in your current building, or elsewhere on campus. If you are living with a roommate you selected, we will only relocate you if we can move both of you together.  If you signed up individually, we will reassign you to another double with a vacant space in it. You are       only eligible to receive this incentive in the event we can move all of the current occupants out of yourcorner room. Each student we move will receive a $500 relocation incentive.

Option 3 - Students currently living in a Circle Apartment can agree to increase the occupancy of their apartment; by adding an additional student to one bedroom. This will result in a reduced room rate for    the occupants of that bedroom. The students in the extended occupancy bedroom will be charged the Circles Apartment Double rate of $7,787. Please note that all apartment occupants must agree to the increased occupancy in the apartment, and also must approve the new roommate

Option 4 - Students currently living in a Garden Apartment can agree to increase the occupancy of their apartment by adding an additional student. Due to the limited space in these apartments, we acknowledge that adding an additional student to the apartment will impact all apartment residents. As a result, all apartment occupants will receive an extended occupancy rebate of $500 each semester that the apartment has this additional occupant. The rebate of $500 per student will be calculated and distributed based on apartment occupancy as of October 1st and February 1st.  Please note that all apartment occupants must agree to the increased occupancy in the apartment, and also must approve the new roommate.

Option 5 - Consider spending fall semester in London or Washington, D.C. Ithaca has programs in both locations, with available seats in classes and exceptional opportunities to explore two of the great cities of the world.  The Provost will award a travel award of $750 to any student who moves from IC on-campus housing for fall 2009 to the London or Washington program.  Spaces are limited, so call today to inquire about this possibility:  Call the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies at 607- 274-3527 for information about the Washington program, and the Office of International Programs at 607-274-3306 for information on the London Center!  (the travel award is only available for fall semester, and only to students who currently hold a fall 2009 on-campus housing assignment). Those students who accept this offer and agree to live off-campus upon their return will also be eligible for the $2,000 off-campus incentive. See information below regarding the off-campus application and approval process.

If you are interested in changing your room assignment from a corner double to a new space on campus or adjusting the occupancy in your on-campus apartment: please email housing@ithaca.edu. The email should be constructed as follows:

            Subject: Fall Housing Options

Body of email: Student ID number, first and last name, and which option you are

            interested in.

If you are interested in moving from your corner room or adjusting the occupancy for your apartment, each person currently residing in the room/apartment needs to agree to the change. Once we receive your email, the Office of Residential Life will contact each individual occupant via email. Each student will be a given a deadline of 5 business days by which they need to email if they want to object to the change.

If you are interested in applying for off-campus approval: Students who currently hold an on-campus housing assignment for fall 2009 and meet one of the criteria below can apply for and receive approval to move off-campus plus a $2000 off-campus incentive. If money was a factor in your not moving off-campus to date, a limited number of students, who meet one of the criteria below, are eligible to receive this one time $2000 off-campus incentive.

  • A student holding a traditional residence hall assignment;
  • A group of students who can vacate an entire apartment; or
  • An incoming transfer student eligible for housing.

In order to receive the incentive you must apply, be approved for, and accept off-campus status. The Office of Residential Life will only offer this incentive one time and the amount of the incentive will not increase. Once we have generated enough space for incoming students the off-campus approval process and incentive will be discontinued.

To apply for off-campus, you must complete the following three steps:

1.      The on-line student application at https://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/oc_app_part1.htm

2.      The parent/guardian approval for anyone under the age of 21

3.      The off-campus module, “Putting the Pieces Together: Being a Responsible Member of the Ithaca Community,” found at www.ithaca.edu/reslife/quiz/. Once the module is completed and you have entered your name and Ithaca College ID number, a confirmation email will be sent automatically to housing@ithaca.edu; each applicant must complete the module.

Once you submit the on-line application, have your parents email us at housing@ithaca.edu with their consent, and the confirmation of the module is received for each applicant, you will receive a letter from the Office of Residential Life either confirming that you are one of the students approved to move off-campus and receive $2000, or notifying you that you have been placed on the off-campus waitlist.

The Office of Residential Life recognizes that it might difficult to locate off-campus accommodations while you are not in the Ithaca area. If you are interested in coming to Ithaca to look for an apartment, we will provide two nights of free on-campus housing (no meal plan provided) to help with your search. This free housing is dependent on space availability and is only being offered until we approve enough students to move off-campus. You may contact the Summer Housing Office at (607) 274-1637 or sho@Ithaca.edu.

These incentive offers are open to any returning student who is assigned to a fall 2009 housing assignment or any incoming transfer student who is eligible for fall 2009 housing assignment. (If you are a returning student who has been approved off-campus prior to or on May 18, 2009, or a transfer student who is housing exempt you are not eligible for these offers.)

For more information, contact our office by phone at 607-274-3141, by fax at 607-274-1589, or by e-mail at Housing@ithaca.edu.
