Submitted on behalf of Nancy Pringle, vice president and general counsel.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I must inform the Ithaca College community of the death of longtime employee Deb Emnett, who passed away on the evening of Monday, June 15, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Deb was an inspiring coworker with incredible competence in so many areas. She began her Ithaca College career in 1981 as a secretary in systems and data processing. She subsequently served in the Office of the President and Office of the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, and in 1989 she became the executive secretary in the Office of the Vice President and College Counsel. During her time there she worked closely with the Ithaca College Board of Trustees and was invaluable in providing support for two presidential searches. In 2005 she became the legal assistant/office manager for the Division of Legal Affairs.

Deb's organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to get multiple tasks completed simultaneously were appreciated by all who worked with her. While balancing the many responsibilities of her job she also worked toward her bachelor's degree, earning a JJ Staff Scholar Award on the way to earning her B.A. in psychology with a minor in gerontology in 2001. She also found the time to provide leadership and support to the IC Toastmasters group and Phi Kappa Phi and was an active and enthusiastic participant in IC Voices.

I know the entire campus community joins me as we mourn the loss of our friend and colleague. We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Deb's husband, Ed, and their children, Tim and Beth '08, M.S. '09. Details on funeral services will be provided as they become available.

Deb was brave indeed. She led our Toastmasters group the year I joined and was a funny, kind, decent and quietly courageous person. I know she fought the cancer hard and won some more time than she might have had, but it is still too soon. Very sorry to hear of her passing away, and my thoughts of healing go out to her family and friends.

This is such sad news...Deb was such a ball of energy, a genuinely nice person with a wonderfully wicked sense of humor. Rest in peace, Deb...our world will be a dimmer place without you in it.

I remember working with Deb when Jack Oblack was H&S Dean. She was the "go to" person for chairpersons if it involved the Dean. Later in the College Council's Office Deb was a person to count on to get it done.So sorry we had to lose her so soon.We shared the IC voICes experience too. We'll miss her.

Deb was not just a highly effective administrative assistant, but a warm and helpful individual. She was also an outstanding student, whom I had the privilege of having in class. This is very sad news for any who knew Deb. Many will miss her.

Memories of Deb are many. Going for our notary licenses together, singing and performing with voICes, lunching away from the office, and volunteering with IC Toastmasters. I'm grateful that you and Ed had a chance to visit us at the beach. The endless card games on that rainy day were delightful. Your camping trip came to a soggy end, and it was great having you come back to the house to your "own" comfy" room.

God Bless Ed, Beth, and Tim. You took such good care of Deb in every way. I am certain she felt comforted, loved, and happy to have you all so close, even through the harder times.

Dear friend, I shall miss you greatly and remember you always.
