Submitted on behalf of Leslie W. Lewis, dean, School of Humanities and Sciences. I am writing to announce changes in the leadership of the Ithaca Seminar program in the School of Humanities and Sciences. Faculty leadership of the program will be shared by Susanne Morgan, who will work primarily on curriculum and faculty development, and Danette Johnson, who will facilitate the program’s assessment efforts. Susanne will head up the Ithaca Seminar faculty advisory committee, and both will serve on the program’s executive committee. Kathy Lucas, Bonnie Prunty, and David García will also serve on the program's executive committee. Kathy will coordinate the advising components of the program, and brings to the table a long history with the H&S First-Year Seminar program, precursor to the Ithaca Seminar program. Bonnie, one of the original proposers of the Ithaca Seminar program in its current form, has agreed to continue coordinating the programmatic elements of the Seminar in her role as assistant dean of the First-Year Experience. David, who has returned to the H&S dean's office as executive associate dean after working with the program in the provost's office, will head up the executive committee and coordinate administrative support for the program out of the H&S dean's office. The coming year will be transitional for the Ithaca Seminar program: the executive committee is charged with developing a proposal for the future administration of the program moving forward, in addition to carrying out duties as necessary for the functioning of the program in 2009-10. In H&S, our planning for the future of the Ithaca Seminar program will be collaborative, in keeping with this long-established hallmark of IC's work with first-year students. |
