Returning students, I hope you are looking forward to another exciting year at Ithaca College and that you had a productive yet restful summer.

New students, welcome to Ithaca College.  I hope that you will have an enjoyable and rewarding experience here.

Whether you are new or returning to Ithaca College, I encourage you to get involved in all that Ithaca has to offer academically, personally, and socially.  I’m certain that you will build wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Community at Ithaca means more than just attending classes.  It means getting involved in the out-of-class experience by joining a club, providing community service, participating in athletic or recreational sports, or finding other ways to contribute to the Ithaca College community while simultaneously enhancing your learning.

As we begin a new year, the “Welcome Students” website (https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/welcome) provides you with information and resources that will help you better navigate the endless possibilities at Ithaca College.

The campus staff have been busy this summer continuing to work on some exciting initiatives, including:

myHome @ Ithaca (https://myhome.ithaca.edu):  The myHome portal provides faculty, staff and students with easier access to college and personal Web resources.

Ithaca Carshare (http://www.ithacacarshare.org):  A membership-based service that offers 24/7 access to vehicles on an hourly basis, is offering special Ithaca College student rates for Fall 2009.

Emergency Communication Systems:  To further supplement our ability to alert the campus community in emergency situations, an outdoor warning system exists on campus.  This outdoor public loudspeaker system includes both a warning siren and public address capability to deliver emergency warnings and messages.  This system may be used alone or in concert with the Emergency Notification System.  Don’t forget to update your information in the Emergency Notification System (https://www.ithaca.edu/emergencynotification).  All students will receive an email in the event of an emergency, but if you want voice or text messages you do need to add or update that contact information yourself.

Also included on the “Welcome Students” website:  news about Ithaca College and the local community; upcoming events, concerts, and athletic contests; technological tools to help you cope in cyberspace; ways to stay active and fit; important campus rules, regulations, and safety guidelines; and information about the role of off-campus students in the local community.

Have a great year!

Brian McAree

Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life
