The Office of International Programs (OIP) would like to invite all faculty members to attend a workshop designed to assist in the development of faculty-led, short-term study-abroad programs for Ithaca College students.

Short-term study-abroad programming is an important component of the overseas study options available to Ithaca College students. College faculty and staff members have successfully lead programs over the past few years to a number of different locations, including China, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, Ghana, India, Italy, Korea, Malawi, Scotland, and Turkey.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 24, from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Taughannock Falls Meeting Room (Campus Center). We will discuss program planning and development, proposal submission, safety and security measures, liability issues, best practices, and other relevant topics. A panel of faculty members who have successfully led programs abroad will share their experiences and suggestions.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Rachel Cullenen in the OIP at rcullenen@ithaca.edu or 274-1676 by Wednesday, September 23.

Below please find some additional information about short-term study-abroad programming at Ithaca College.

If you are a faculty or staff member interested in developing a new short-term study abroad program, there are resources available on the OIP website (https://www.ithaca.edu/oip/faculty.htm) to help you with the process, from the initial proposal through to the return home from abroad. A program development handbook, as well as proposal and budget forms, may be found on the website.

Proposals for 2010 programming should be submitted, along with a detailed budget estimate, to the OIP by the following deadlines:

  • Winter 2010 programs: September 15, 2009
  • Spring break 2010 programs: October 1, 2009
  • Summer 2010 programs: October 15, 2009
