Mara Alper (Associate Professor/TVR) served as Conference VP for the University Film & Video Association (UFVA) conference at the University of New Orleans in August. This role involved planning and coordinating all aspects of the four-day event, including scheduling for close to 400 people. Alper has served in the position for two years, after being the Executive VP and a Board member for the prior eight years. She also presented a paper about teaching motion graphics and animation and screened her documentary short, "Street Beats: New Orleans."

The conference is held at a different college each year. In 2002, it was at the Park School of Communications, with Alper as the conference host working with former Dean Tom Bohn's staff and Conference and Events Services. It was also hosted at IC in 1990.

The University Film and Video Association (UFVA) is an international organization of media professionals and institutions involved in the production and study of film, video, and other media arts. Founded in 1947, it serves over 800 members through its annual conference and online presence.
