LGBT Film Series Continues Thursday October 1 with To My Women FriendsContributed by Luca Maurer on 09/23/09
In To My Women Friends, revealing interviews with six Russian lesbians convey the joys and hardships of being a lesbian in the former Soviet Union. The documentary touches on a range of issues including lesbian and gay community organizing, coming out and homophobia during a time when lesbians and gay men in the former Soviet Union faced the threat of imprisonment, blackmail, government harassment and family rejection. Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year will explore LGBT lives and stories from around the world. The series will present a total of eight films during the fall 2009 semester; additional screenings will take place during the spring. All are free and open to the public. For a complete schedule visit the events section of the LGBT Center website, or contact the LGBT Center for a fall film series postcard. |
