Baxter is the author of two collections of essays on fiction, four collections of stories, and five novels, including The Feast of Love, nominated for the National Book Award in 2000. A motion picture version of the novel, starring Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear and directed by Academy Award winner Robert Benton, was released in 2007. Baxter is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Known as an inspired teacher, he taught for many years at the University of Michigan, where he directed the MFA program in creative writing. Currently he teaches at the University of Minnesota. Of The Feast of Love, The New York Times Book Review wrote, "Rich, juicy, laugh-out-loud funny and completely engrossing... In The Feast of Love, Charles Baxter shows us the hard-won generosity of spirit that day-to-day dealings with other human beings require. He builds a community right on the page before us, using a glittering eye, a silvery tongue—and just a little moonlight." In addition to giving a reading, Baxter will also teach a master class to Ithaca College students. For more information on the reading, contact Jack Wang at wang@ithaca.edu.
