The effect of exercise and physical activity on sensory, motor, and cognitive functioning in old age has been the primary research focus of the fall 2009 Gerontology Institute distinguished speaker, Wojtek Chodzko-Zajko, Ph.D.

On Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall, Chodzko-Zajko will present a lecture titled "Physical Activity and Successful Aging." This lecture is free and open to the public. There will be a reception after the presentation.

Chodzko-Zajko is professor and head of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has served on the World Health Organization's Scientific Advisory Committee, which issued "Guidelines for Physical Activity in Older Adults." He also serves on the American College of Sports Medicine Strategic Health Initiative on Aging and Exercise.

He is the author and coauthor of numerous papers and reports, primarily on healthy aging, many of which have been published in national and international journals.
