"Embracing the Broken Middle of Jerusalem: A Future for Jews and Palestinians?" is the title of the inaugural Peggy R. Williams Difficult Dialogues Symposium, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. in the Emerson Suites. Free and open to the public, the program will feature a presentation by Marc Ellis, director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Baylor University. Sanford Gutman, professor emeritus of history at SUNY Cortland, will serve as the respondent. The symposium will be moderated by Chip Gagnon, associate professor and chair of the Department of Politics.There will be an opportunity for questions and responses from the audience. A reception will follow. The symposium is named in honor of President Emerita Peggy R. Williams, who has been an advocate for dialogue about complex and controversial issues of the time and a staunch defender of academic freedom and active, open inquiry.
