On the weekend of October 3 and 4, Ithaca College’s Debate team traveled to Lafayette College for its first tournament of the year.

 

On the weekend of October 3 and 4, Ithaca College’s Debate team traveled to Lafayette College for its first tournament of the year.  Ithaca’s team was one of the largest in the tournament, totaling eight competitors, only the team from Western Kentucky had a larger contingent.  Based on the number of wins for its top entries Ithaca finished in third place behind Western Kentucky team and Lafayette College.  Other schools at the tournament included University of Pennsylvania, St. Anselm College, Ohio State University, Ohio University, Otterbein College, and Patrick Henry College.  The team competed in 42 debates over the course of the two day tournament – finishing with a 21-21 final record.  First year student, Jessica Mortellaro had a particularly outstanding tournament reaching the finals in the novice division where she met a debater from University of Pennsylvania.  Jessica was also recognized as the second best speaker in the novice division.  “Overall the team had an outstanding performance, particularly given how early in the season we are,” explained Director of Forensics, Scott Thomson.  Other members of the Ithaca team included Sarah Fields (10), Heike Domine (11), Samantha Lowe (12), Eve Trojanov (12), Kody Keplinger (13), Caleb McWhorter (13), and Krystina Drasher (13).  The team’s next tournament is October 24 at Suffolk University in Boston.
