Girish Karnad, One of India's Foremost Living Playwrights, to Visit Ithaca College October 26-29Contributed by Rosalie Fitzgerald on 10/13/09
Besides doing class visits, Karnad will deliver a public talk on "Colonialism and Indian Theater" on Oct 26th (6.30 pm) at Clarke Lounge. This is an invaluable opportunity for anyone interested in world theater or in South Asian Studies to get an understanding of the fascinating ways in which postcolonial Indian theater handles colonial and precolonial cultural and artistic influences. There will also be a staged reading of Karnad's English play, Hayavadana, directed by Prof Claire Gleitman on Oct 28th (6.30 pm) at Handwerker Gallery. This is a play that has elements of melodrama, farce and serious philosophical questioning in equal measure and Girish Karnad will be in attendance there. All are welcome. For more information, please contact Anjali Nerlekar, Assistant Professor, Department of English (274-7340) or anerlekar@ithaca.edu. |
