Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media arts and codirector of the Finger Lake Environmental Film Festival, presented the keynote lecture at the Quinto Congreso International de Teoria y Analisis Cinematografico in Morelia Mexico on October 3, 2009.

The title of her talk, coauthored and copresented with Helen de Michiel, codirector of the National Alliance of Media Arts and Culture, was "The Open Space Project: Towards a Collaborative and Relational Theory of International Documentary." The keynote and plenary session was cosponsored by Patrocinado por Mujeres en el Cine y la Television, A.C., the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, and the Morelia International Film Festival. It was simultaneously translated into Spanish. 

Zimmermann and De Michiel were also invited guests to the Morelia International Film Festival, one of the premiere film festivals in Latin America.
