As a result of divisional restructuring and strategic visioning, the Counseling Center has a new name:  The Office of Counseling and Wellness.

In recent years, the Counseling Center has expanded beyond clinical services to include educational and outreach services intended to promote student learning and development that is holistic and welcoming to all.  The former department name no longer accurately described the range of services and programs available. Counseling, LGBT education and health promotion services address the varied needs of students during times of personal challenge and development – thus enhancing student wellness.  The new department name, The Office of Counseling and Wellness, reflects the breadth of professional mental health and primary prevention services offered to the community.

The Office of Counseling and Wellness is composed of 3 centers:

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services
Deb Harper, Ph.D., Director of Department and CAPS
Suki Mongomery Hall, Ph.D., Assistant Director CAPS,

The Center for LGBT Education, Outreach and Services, and
 Lis Maurer, M.S., Program Director

The Center for Health Promotion.
Nancy Reynolds, M.S.P.H., Program Director

Comprehensive college counseling services remain the primary focus of clinical staff, but the role of primary prevention in addressing the needs of students has never been more important.  As program directors, Lis Maurer and Nancy Reynolds have new position titles that convey the expertise and autonomy needed to lead these two centers.

Counseling, student development, and wellness services are found on college and university campuses across the country.  Ithaca College has a unique combination of counseling, LGBT and health promotion services which speak to our particular values and shared vision of creating an inclusive and healthy community for all who live and work here.

The Office of Counseling and Wellness is a department in the division of Student Affairs and Campus Life and is located on the lower level of the Hammond Health Center.  You may reach each center directly at the following numbers:

Counseling and Psychological Services, 274-3136;

LGBT Education, Outreach and Services, 274-7394; and

Health Promotion, 274-7933.
