The French horn duo "MirrorImage" -- Michelle Stebleton and Lisa Bontrager, with Tomoko Kamanaru at the piano -- will present a free concert on Tuesday, November 3 at 8:15 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Works from their upcoming compact disc project, “Safari” will be featured, along with commissions for the ensemble by Paul Basler, Ray Chase, and Larry Lowe. Also on the program are several opera arrangements by Ray Chase, which have been recorded on the ensemble’s recent compact disc release, “MirrorImage at the Opera,” on MSR Classics.
MirrorImage has been featured in international venues and on the recordings that they spearheaded, Harambee: The Horn Music of Paul Basler, and their title album, MirrorImage at the Opera, both released on the MSR Classics label. Multifaceted musicians and professional teachers, they offer versatile programming in solo, chamber and educational settings; through their outreach, they have performed many recitals throughout the U.S. and Europe, and double concerti with several orchestras. Frequent grant recipients; they have commissioned works by Eric Ewazen, Paul Basler, Raymond Chase, Mark Schultz, Luis Szaran and Laurence Lowe. Their perfectly blended sound and style comes from the training they received at the University of Michigan; both are products of the famous Louis J. Stout horn studio. |
