Internship Descriptions: · Media Construction of Social Justice: 2 Interns needed Research media for the Media Construction of Social Justice curriculum kit. Research background information and help obtain media documents related to the labor movement, prison reform/abolition, GLBT rights and Immigration. This internship will help you deepen your media literacy skills through applying document based questioning techniques and will broaden your understanding of historic social justice movements in the United States. · Video Production: 1 Intern Create short instructional videos for teachers that demonstrate classroom instructional practices that of media decoding. These short videos will be used in workshops and posted on the web. Experience with Final Cut Pro or equivalent is needed. Deepen your experience and skill in video production with an emphasis on editing while you learn media literacy theory and methodology. · Promotion and Marketing: 2 Interns Review, develop, and implement many aspects of our marketing plan, including: learn to use web site analysis tool Urchin/Google Analytics and present data to staff, learn to design e-blasts and other online promotions, research referral sites and contacts and add to database, use email templates to reply to inquiries, advise and contribute on PLS social networking site and website, and propose and implement additional promotional activities. Gain experience and skills in marketing and promotion and an understanding of media literacy education. · Multi Media Design: 1 Intern Work with PLS staff reviewing, re-crafting, and creating various design elements for a range of look Sharp materials. Depending upon intern skills these can include promotional materials (e.g. flyers, posters, e-blasts), classroom materials (e.g. PowerPoints, videos, student handouts), educational materials (e.g. book covers, DVD labels), and web materials (e.g. Facebook elements, web pages). Gain experience and skills in workplace collaboration and media design and an understanding of media literacy education. · Media Literacy Researcher: 1 Intern Work with PLS staff on a variety of tasks involving researching media-related statistics, updating/creating handouts for workshop trainings based on research, and locating media documents for a project on Stereotypes in the Media: Race and Class. Gain a full understanding of media literacy education through research and application. · Health and Violence Prevention Curriculum Materials: 2 Interns Research media (commercials and other advertising, T.V. programs, films, internet websites), for the development of elementary lessons on nutrition, body image, bullying, and safety, as well as high school materials on race, media and violence. Help develop, edit, and format lessons and construct media materials. Develop your research and production skills while learning media literacy theory and classroom practice applied to health nutrition and violence prevention. · Editing, Layout of Curriculum Kits: 1 Intern Review and edit electronic files for Project Look Sharp curriculum kits for print and online publication. This will include advising on layout solutions and converting files into new Microsoft Word templates. Curriculum kits to work on include: Media Construction of Global Warming, Seeing Africa for high school, and a kit on the Revolutionary War for 4th grade. Gain experience and skills in layout and editing and an understanding of media literacy education.
