David Turkon of Anthropology assumes position of Chair for international organization of anthropologists who study HIV and AIDS

After serving one year as Chair Elect, Anthropology's David Turkon was appointed the Chair for the AIDS and Anthropology Research Group (AARG) at this year's meetings of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) in Philadelphia.

AARG, an interest group of the Society for Medical Anthropology (a sub-section of the American Anthropological Association) is a network of scholars interested in anthropological research on HIV infection and AIDS. AARG has membership that spans the globe. The mission of the AARG is to support anthropological research in the fight against HIV and AIDS. To this end, AARG works to use anthropological research in the fight against HIV and AIDS; advocates for AIDS research within anthropology; promotes AIDS research by anthropologists within the broader AIDS research community; and provides a forum for anthropologists working on AIDS to meet & communicate about their work. David assumed the position of Chair on December 2 and his term runs for three years.
