 David Turkon of Anthropology presented a paper at the 108th annual meetings of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) on December 2.  David was also given a Certificate of Award, in honor of Outstanding Service to Anthropology and African Studies.

The paper, "The Ends of Anthropology or New Horizons: Using Weakened Indigenous Institutions to Strengthern Community in CRS Development Programming in Lesotho," was co-authored by David Himmelgreen, Nancy Romero-Daza and Charlotte Noble of the University of South Florida Department of Anthropology. The paper highlights research on HIV and AIDS that the co-authors work on in Lesotho, southern Africa, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services. David was the lead author on the paper.

The award was presented by the Association for Africanist Anthropology (AfAA), a sub-section of AAA, for which David serves as Program Editor and Chair of the Graduate Paper Prize Committee.
