The Hammond Health Center hopes to begin providing H1N1 vaccines to Ithaca College Faculty and Staff later in January 2010. The CDC gives high priority to vaccinating young adults against H1N1. As the primary care provider for Ithaca College students, the Hammond Health Center has been focused first on vaccinating students. We have always hoped that once the demand has been met among the student priority groups, we would be able to offer vaccines to Ithaca College faculty and staff members, depending upon availability of the vaccine. We have received some shipments of H1N1 vaccine, and expect that we will continue to receive vaccine over the next weeks and months. We do not receive much advance notice about delivery dates, quantities, or formulation of the vaccine (shot or nasal mist). We are aware, that earlier this week, Governor Paterson announced that health care providers could begin vaccinating the general public. The Hammond Health Center plans to begin vaccinating faculty and staff members, again, dependent upon availability of vaccine, later in January 2010. Dates, times and locations are yet to be determined, and will be announced on Intercom. In the meantime, faculty and staff are encouraged to check with their own providers for vaccine availability. At this point in time we do not plan to administer H1N1 vaccine to spouses or children of faculty/staff members. |
