IC Will Offer Federal Direct Loans Effective with the 2010-2011 Academic YearContributed by Larry Chambers on 01/25/10 Ithaca College will begin participating in the Federal Direct Loan program effective for academic periods beginning in the Summer 2010 and beyond. This program will replace the Federal Stafford Loan, PLUS and Graduate PLUS programs we have offered in the past. The decision to move to the Federal Direct Loan program was carefully considered. Influencing factors were: uncertainty in the current Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) which include Stafford, PLUS, and Graduate PLUS loans, pending legislation before Congress eliminating FFELP effective July 1, 2010, and a lack of borrower benefits offered to students. This decision does not have any impact on the current Federal Perkins Loan Program or any other alternative educational loans.
