AACSB International–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has affirmed the accreditation of the Ithaca College School of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
The school earned initial accreditation of its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business administration in 2005. To maintain accreditation, programs must undergo a rigorous review every five years, demonstrating a continued commitment to the 21 quality standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources and interactions of faculty and students as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.
“AACSB accreditation verifies the excellence of our School of Business and is a testament to the commitment of the faculty and staff who lead the programs and initiatives,” said Kathleen Rountree, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “It was a great pleasure to hear the review team speak so positively about our exceptional students, our well-qualified faculty and, of course, our exciting new home for the School of Business.”
That sentiment was echoed by interim dean Mark Cordano. He noted that the panel of experienced deans who comprised the external review team identified several qualities of the school that AACSB would like to include in its database of “best practices.”
“The review team made special note of our clear mission-driven curriculum design, the depth of student involvement in the life of the business school, a culture of faculty involvement in continuous improvement of the school, and class sizes that allow for significant engagement between students and faculty,” said Cordano. “These are all qualities that shape and define the educational experience for our students. I thank everyone for their hard work throughout the process and welcome everyone to share the pride of this accomplishment.”
Since 2008 the school has been housed in the Dorothy D. and Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise, the first facility for a college or university business school in the world to earn platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. In each of the past four years the school has been listed among “The Best 301 Business Schools” by Princeton Review.
