You may be aware that Information Technology Services embarked on a project a few years ago to redesign and upgrade the campus network infrastructure - the Network and Security re-Architecture project (NSrA).  ITS now needs your help to plan to complete key elements of this project during the Spring 2010 semester.

Key objectives of this program include:

    • Replace end of life equipment
    • Improve network performance
    • Improve information security posture and defenses
    • Support future needs and growth

Much progress has been made to lay the groundwork for the College to move to the new and improved network.  Upgraded cabling has been installed in most buildings, new routers and switches are in place, wireless access points are being deployed, and new devices were purchased to secure the environment.

With the new networking equipment in place, we now turn our attention to how and when we will be moving our systems and users onto this new network.   We have two projects that have been tasked with planning for and migrating users (User Migration) and systems (Systems Migration).  The project teams will be reaching out to you, the stakeholders, to gather scheduling constraints and other information to help with the planning and to support the migration that is targeted for this Spring.

We ask that you cooperate fully with ITS staff if you are contacted to assist in planning these critical, final phases in the NSrA effort.  Your cooperation, flexibility, and patience are appreciated as we take the next step forward in deploying technology that supports the college community.

If you have any questions, visit the NSrA Web site at https://www.ithaca.edu/its/general/nsra/, or contact Michael Taves, executive director of ITS and NSrA project manager, at x4-3061.
