As colder temperature settle back into the area, frozen ponds, lakes, and streams may look inviting but can be a trap sending you plunging into icy water, which can ruin your day, not to mention end your life. Regardless of how well a victim can swim, ice cold water can cause severe hypothermia in less than 15 minutes, leaving the victim too weak to get out of the frigid water. For these reasons, all ponds located on the College campus are off limits as indicated by posted signage. Safe ice can be found at the numerous ice skating rinks situated in the immediate area. |
