Peace Corps Employment Opportunities - Information Session (sponsored by Career Services)Contributed by Kristin LiBritz on 02/15/10 The Peace Corps was created to provide education and technical training to citizens of other countries and to foster cross-cultural exchange. Since 1961, over 190,000 Volunteers have served in 139 countries around the world. Volunteers in the Peace Corps work with governments, schools, youth, community members, local non-profits, and entrepreneurs to address changing and complex needs. Unlike other organizations, Peace Corps Volunteers live and work in a local community where they provide guidance and skill transfer, as well as opportunities for cultural exchange. The Peace Corps is a 27-month commitment and provides a living allowance, full medical and dental care, transportation to and from the assigned country, as well as readjustment funds on completion of service. Students from many majors find opportunities with the Corps, including those who have studied foreign languages, environmental science, natural sciences and education training. To learn more about opportunities with the Peace Corps, attend their Information Session on Wednesday, March 3 at 8:00pm in the Taughannock Falls Meeting Room and view their profile in eRecruiting (Ithaca's job and internship database).
