I am pleased to announce the visits of additional finalists for the position of Dean of the Park School of Communications.

John V. Pavlik will visit the campus on March 7-8. Pavlik is Chair of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University. Prior to that position, he served as professor at Columbia University, where he was the Executive Director of the Center for New Media, and at San Diego State University, where he was the founding director of the School of Communication. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Mass Communication, both from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin. He is the author of an extensive list of books and book chapters, including the recently published volume “Converging Media”, 2nd Edition, which is co-authored with Shawn McIntosh and published by Oxford University Press. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Press Association and as an advisor to the National Black Programming Consortium in Harlem. He will present an open session on “The Future of Communications Education” on Tuesday, March 9 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge, which is open to the entire campus community, and will be followed by a reception.

Fritz (Frank) Joseph Messere will visit campus on March 11-12. Messere currently serves as Interim Dean of the School of Communication, Media and the Arts at SUNY Oswego, and is Professor of Broadcasting and Telecommunications. Prior to assuming that position in 2008, he served at SUNY Oswego as Department Chair of the Communication Studies Department. He served as a visiting Associate Professor at Cornell in 2001-2002, and at Ithaca College in 1996-1997. He is the author of six books, numerous book chapters, articles, and essays, and has presented papers and panel presentations in various venues including the National Communication Association Annual Convention and the Broadcast Education Association Annual Convention.  He will present an open session on “The Future of Communications Education” on Thursday, March 11 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Clark Lounge, which is open to the entire campus community, and will be followed by a reception.

[Moderator's note: several presentations by finalist candidate Diane Gayeski, originally scheduled for February 25 and 26, have been postponed until Tuesday, March 2. The open presentation has been rescheduled to March 2, 3:00-4:00 p.m. in Emerson Suite A. The presentation will be followed by a reception.]
