Thomas Perls, M.D., M.P.H., is the Gerontology Institute's spring 2010 distinguished speaker. Dr. Perls is a geriatrician at Boston Medical Center and associate professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.

In 1995, during his training as a geriatrician at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Perls founded the New England Centenarian Study, which since then has grown to be the largest study of centenarians in the world.  To date, he has published over 100 articles on the subject of human exceptional longevity and authored a popular book, titled Living to 100. He also developed a life expectancy calculation available at www.livingto100.com that receives some 5,000 visits a day.

On Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites, Campus Center, Dr. Perls will present a lecture titled "The Way and How of Living to 100", in which he will review his research along with a number of key findings.  This lecture is free and open to the public. There will be a reception following the presentation.
