Relations with Native Nations, the environment and each other featured in groundbreaking series.

Ithaca College's Native American Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology are co-sponsors of the series "Onondaga Land Rights and Our Common Future II-- A Collaborative Educational Series Bringing Together the Central New York Community." Other collaborators include Syracuse University, LeMoyne College, Onondaga Community College, Hamilton College, Colgate University, Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation, Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON), and the Syracuse Center of Excellence. This amazing intercollegiate series has events from Feb. to June and its focus is to examine and celebrate our connections with our local Native American neighbors, particularly the Onondaga Nation.  The series kicked off Feb. 8th with presentations featuring Native leaders and elders at the Syracuse Stage. The next program in the series, “Lacrosse: The Creator's Game,” with Oren Lyons and Roy Simmons II, will take place Monday, April 5 at 7 pm, Syracuse Stage, 820 East Genesee St. Other presentations in the series focus on Onondaga Lake, hydrofracking, the influence of Haudenosaunee women on American feminism, and the importance of wampum and treaties. On June 14, Jack Rossen (Chair, Anthropology Department) will co-present with Tony Gonyea on cultural resource protection. For a full schedule of events, see http://www.peacecouncil.net/NOON/
