Understanding Disability Studies and Performances, a collection of essays co-edited by Bruce Henderson, Professor of Speech Communication, has just been published by Routledge.

The book, which Henderson, co-edited with Noam Ostrander, Assistant Professor of Social Work in the MSW Program at DePaul University (Chicago), contains scholarly articles on live and mediated performances ranging from silent film to contemporary dance and performance art.  It also features the first publication of the play Ball: A Traumedy by Brian Lobel, which won the Hopwood Award for Playwriting at the University of Michigan, as well as original poetry by award-winning poet Jim Ferris.  The book is based on a special issue (also co-edited by Henderson and Ostrander) of the journal Text and Performance Quarterly, of which Henderson served as Editor in Chief for three years.
