On Thursday, April 1, the Department of Public Works will begin cleaning streets in the South Hill area, weather permitting. The city has asked the college to remind students who park on South Hill streets that they should watch for posted signs and check on their cars daily.

Individual streets will be posted as “No Parking Zones” beginning 24 hours in advance of their scheduled cleaning. Vehicles that remain on the street after the posted time will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. In addition, a $25 per day storage fee will be assessed by the wrecker company for vehicles that remain at their facility for more than 24 hours.

While the South Hill portion of the street cleaning operation should only take a few days, it will continue throughout the city from now until April 23.

In past years, students who have failed to move their cars from streets scheduled for cleaning have had their cars ticketed and towed. Please observe the schedule and comply with the posted signs to avoid unnecessary aggravation and expense.

If you will be away during this time, please make alternate parking arrangements for your vehicle. Students in need of long-term parking should contact private facilities or the Cayuga Street Parking Garage (Pro Park) at (607) 256-7275 to inquire about availability.

The full schedule of the street cleaning program can be found by going to the “News” section on the city’s website: www.cityofithaca.org.

Questions and concerns can be forwarded to the Streets and Facilities Office at (607) 272-1718.
