Ithaca Dining Services Celebrating Asian Heritage MonthContributed by Julie Whitten on 03/29/10
Ithaca Dining Services will be celebrating Asian Heritage Month through four different events at various dining locations.
World-renowned Thai and Vietnamese chef, restaurateur and cookbook author Mai Pham has created Asian dishes for students, faculty and staff to taste during Asian Heritage Month. Chef Pham owns the Lemon Grass Restaurant in Sacramento, CA. She is also a food columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and contributes to the Los Angeles Times, Fine Cooking, and other publications. Students who are interested in learning more about Southeast Asian Cuisine can enter to win a free trip to Chef Pham’s restaurant in Sacramento. The first event, Tour of Asia, will take place April 1st at the Campus Center Dining Hall during dinner. Diners will take part in a trivia game to win Asian inspired prizes. A special menu of Asian cuisine that was created by Chef Pham that includes grilled pork with chili lime sauce, Thai green curry with chicken, grilled salmon with Tai basil sauce, spicy lemongrass tofu, pad Thai with shrimp or tofu, and vegetarian pho noodle soup, will be served.
On April 2nd, the Towers Dining Hall will host the Asian Cuisine Towers Luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Asian Culture Club, activities include trivia and games.
From April 5th to April 9th, Pacific Traders in IC Square Food Court will host the Celebration of Thai and Vietnamese Cuisine, and change its menu to Thai and Vietnamese dishes created by world-renowned chef, Mai Pham. Ithaca Dining Services own dedicated Asian chef Puang-Ngern Deljoo “Pam” will be preparing the dishes. The special menu includes: April 5th -- 9th Celebration of Thai and Vietnamese Cuisine Pacific Traders, Lunch Pacific Traders in IC Square Food Court will host the Celebration of Thai and Vietnamese Cuisine, and change its menu to Thai and Vietnamese dishes created by world-renowned chef, Mai Pham. Ithaca Dining Services own dedicated Asian chef Puang-Ngern Deljoo “Pam” will be preparing the dishes. The special menu includes: Monday: Jasmine Rice, Vietnamese Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Grilled Lemongrass Porkloin, and Long Beans in Garlic Sauce Tuesday: Jasmine Rice, Vietnamese Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Grilled Lemongrass Porkloin, and Noodle and Vegetable Stir-fry Wednesday: Jasmine Rice, Vietnamese Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Orange Chicken, Grilled Lemongrass Porkloin, and Noodle and Vegetable Stir-fry Thursday: Jasmine Rice, Vietnamese Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Orange Chicken, Grilled Lemongrass Porkloin, and Noodle and Vegetable Stir-fry Friday: Jasmine Rice, Vietnamese Fried Rice, Orange Chicken, Rice Paper Wrapped Salad Rolls, Pad Thai with Shrimp, and Crispy Spring Rolls
Lastly, on April 16th, Asia Night will take place in the IC Square Food Court at 7:00 p.m. Beginning at 7:30, guests will enjoy performances by Taiko drumming by Yamatai, belly dancing by FantAsia, karate from Seishi Karate, Cornell Lion Dance and much more. Ithaca Dining Services will be providing the food at $3.00 per plate.
