In the Democratic Republic of Congo, rape is not just an act of sexual assault: it's a weapon of war.

Since Congo's civil war began in 1996, over 200,000 women, some as young as 14 months, have been victims of rape.

What is occurring in Congo right now is an act of femicide: the eradication of women, both in body and spirit.

Join us on Thursday, April 1 in Textor 102 at 8p.m. to learn more about the drastic womens rights situation in Congo, and what we can do to make a difference.

FEATURING:
-A PRESENTATION by the V-Day Organization

and a chance to ask questions and learn more from:
-PEYI SOYINKA AIREWELE from the politics department
-ALISON BLISS from the Women's Advocacy Center

We will also be collecting money for the V-Day Organization's CITY OF JOY, which helps victims of rape find safety, heal, and become independent leaders. We will be raising money to help the members of the City of Joy pay for self-defense classes.
