Spit That! Spring Semester Showcase
My name is Jaylene Clark and I am the founder and president of Spit That!, a poetry organization here on campus. I am writing to inform you about our upcoming showcase, "Beats Like Bombs: We Spit Nouns and Verbs." Last year our Spit That! Showcase was a sold out event! This year we want it to be bigger and better. You are in for two hours of some unbelievable poetry from Spit That! poets, as well as from our guest artists, "Pussies, Pens, and Politics."
Here is a short blurb about them:
PUSSIES, PENS & POLITICS is a fist pumping, tongue-lashing spoken word romp performed by two-time Philadelphia Grand Slam Champion, Ms. Wise, and Scheme Magazine's "2009 Voices of The Year," Denice Frohman. This verbal explosion explores the context of love in life and politics for today’s gay community and beyond, while creating empowering images of women not often seen in mainstream media and hip-hop. Pussies, Pens & Politics is a testament to who we are as people, giving voice to the personal and political implications of our identities. Delving deep into issues of sexuality, gender, and race these two artists have come together to inspire social change through the power of words and performance poetry.
