The winners of the award — widely regarded as "the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism” — will be announced at the fall ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, at the end of October. The Associated Collegiate Press is the oldest and largest national membership organization for college journalists in the country. The contest was judged by a panel of professionals with extensive online media experience. Judges noted that the most successful sites displayed excellence in multimedia storytelling, writing and editing, site design, in-depth and complete coverage, interactivity, and graphics and photography. The Ithacan won the Online Pacemaker Award in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and was a finalist in 2009.
